“Even a little democracy is too much for tyrants,” Owaisi MP responds to Niti Aayog CEO

Responding to NITI AAYOG CEO Amitabh Kant’s “we are too much of a democracy” remarks, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi MP said “even a little democracy is too much for tyrants.”

NITI AAYOG CEO Amitabh Kant said Tuesday “tough” reforms are “very difficult in the Indian context,” as “we are too much of a democracy” but the government has shown “courage” and “determination” in pushing such reforms across sectors, including mining, coal, labour and agriculture.

In his remarks, coming amid farmers’ historic protest over the new agricultural laws, Kant said the changes in the legislation provide alternatives to farmers to sell their crops without doing away with the system of MSP (minimum support prices) and mandis.

The vocal opponent of the Narendra Modi government and four time parliamentarian Owaisi said “Democracy isn’t the problem, BJP is.”

He took to Twitter and slammed the Niti Aayog CEO as a video of his remarks began circulating on social media.

Owaisi added: “Whether it’s demonetisation, Kashmir clampdown or Farm laws BJP has shown no respect for democracy. Their “toughness” has only caused pain and misery.”
