The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 25 September carried out searches at the offices and residences of Muslim activists alleged to be the second-rung leaders of the banned Muslim group Popular Front of India (PFI) in Kerala.

Raids were carried out in the districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram in Kerala in connection with a case that was filed in New Delhi.

The investigative agency had accused that foreign funds were utilized for activities deemed to be “against national interests.”

The ongoing raids, initiated on Monday morning, are being conducted with the collaboration of CRPF and Kerala Police personnel. The operations are currently taking place in Chavakkad in Thrissur, Kumbalam in Ernakulam, and various locations in Malappuram associated with former PFI members.

On 28 September 2023, the Union government banned PFI and its associates including Campus Front of India, Rehab India Foundation, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations, National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala. The organisations were declared “unlawful associations” for a period of five years.
