Biden repeats Israeli version of deadly hospital strike, blaming Palestinians

US President Joe Biden has backed the Israeli claim that Palestinians were responsible for the deadly attack on al-Ahli al-Arab hospital.

“Based on what I’ve seen, it appears as though it was done by the other team, not you,” Biden said shortly after arriving in Israel.

“But there’s a lot of people out there not sure… we’ve got to overcome a lot of things.”

The claim appears to accept the Israeli military version of events, which said that Islamic Jihad was responsible for the strike.

The Israeli army has in the past claimed that Palestinians were responsible for atrocities carried out by its forces, including the Israeli killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh last year.

Biden has previously falsely stated that he had seen images of “terrorists beheading children.”

Biden told Netanyahu that Washington would provide Israel everything it needed to defend itself amid the continuing war in Gaza.

Biden added that 31 Americans were among the more than 1,400 people killed inside Israel in the October 7 attack.

Israel’s PM Netanyahu said the “civilised world must unite to defeat Hamas” during his briefing with Biden.

Over 500 people have been killed in an Israeli air raid on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, according to Palestinian authorities in the besieged territory.

Many world leaders have condemned the attack. Jordan canceled the summit with the presidents of the US and Egypt after the deadly strike. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas earlier withdrew from the meeting.
