Incessant attacks on hospitals, refugee camps; Israeli army detains Al Awda hospital director

As Israel continues to unleash attacks on hospitals and refugee camps, mass casualties have been reported in Jabalia and Nuseirat refugee camps.

The compounds of all major hospitals  in the southern stretch of the Gaza strip including Al Awda, Kamal Adwan and Nasser are also being subjected to ceaseless bombardment.

Heavy shelling on Jabalia refugee camp has killed around 90.

Among the 25 people killed in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza were 10 members of one family, as the grieving relatives told Al Jazeera.

On Sunday night, shelling at the Nasser Hospital’s maternity ward killed one child and injured three other people.

“Targeting Nasser medical complex is part of the occupation’s policy to eliminate the health sector and would bring down the health system in the southern Gaza Strip,” Gaza’s Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Al Qudra said in a statement.

“What the occupation is doing is part of the scenario that began in northern Gaza from the Shifa complex,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has detained Ahmed Muhanna, the director of Gaza’s Al-Awda Hospital, and moved him to an unknown location.

Other medical staff at the hospital were detained, stripped and interrogated for four hours in “inhumane conditions” before being released.

Citing these incidents Al Qudra sought intervention from international organisations to protect the hospitals and the medical staff.

At least 18,787 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7.
