Israel killed hundreds of sports players in Gaza, says Supreme Council for Sports

Nazir al-Nashash, a young aspiring Palestinian footballer, was killed along with his father and uncle after an Israeli missile struck their home.

Israeli forces have killed hundreds of sports players and figures, the Gaza-based Supreme Council for Sports has said, while calling on the international community to hold the army accountable.

“It also targeted, destroyed and bombed many stadiums and sports clubs and turned a number of them into detention, torture and execution centres, as happened in the Yarmouk Stadium in Gaza City when dozens of civilians were forced to take off their clothes in a clear crime before the world,” the council said in a press release published on Telegram.

It called on the international community, international sports institutions and federations and “all countries of the free world” to take action and “stop the genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.”

Meanwhile, at least 100 people were killed and 158 injured in central Gaza in the past 24 hours, according to a health official.

In Gaza, at least 21,507 people have been killed and 55,915 injured in Israeli attacks since October 7.
