Dalit woman raped and burned to death in Rajasthan

A 30-year-old Dalit woman died on Friday after she was raped and set on fire by a man identified as Shakur Khan in Rajasthan’s Barmer district.

The woman was alone on Thursday when the accused Khan broke into their house and raped her, the deceased’s husband said in the complaint.

The Barmer Police arrested Khan on Friday.

Despite the intervention of neighbors who heard the commotion, the woman was still attacked by Khan, who poured acid on her and set her on fire before fleeing, according to Hindustan Times.

Admitted to a government hospital in Balotra with severe burns covering 40% of her body, the woman was later transferred to a hospital in Jodhpur for further treatment. Unfortunately, she breathed her last while undergoing medical care.

A first information report has been registered against him under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 376 (punishment for rape ), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 450 (house trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment for life) of the Indian Penal Code.

He has also been charged sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
