Turkish press collective publishes a tribute to journalists martyred in Palestine

To bring attention and recognition to the martyrdom of about 100 journalists Israel has killed in Gaza, Press For Palestine, a Turkish organisation aiding Palestinian journalists, published a single-copy newspaper in Istanbul.

On 20 December, the newspaper names “Gazzete,” published by Turkish journalists and media professionals, was circulated all over Istanbul. In the days to come, the distribution will reach other major cities.

Hayrunnisa Cicek, a spokesperson to the initiative, stated that Israel is responsible for the “largest journalist massacre in history,” noting that in the last two months, the nation’s systematic and continuous massacres in the occupied Palestinian areas since 1948 had reached levels that were previously unheard.

Since 7 October, Israel has killed around 97 journalists in occupied Palestine, and unlawfully detained over fifty journalists.

Additionally, Tel Aviv has blocked media access to Gaza, making it more difficult to report on the situation as it is unfolding.

Cicek further highlighted that Israel attempts to silence Palestinian journalists who are exposing the atrocities and war crimes committed against civilians, regardless of age or gender.
